PDF and Accessibility

This meeting focused on PDF and Accessibility. Ted Osuch presented on this topic and showed examples of how tagging PDF documents allows them to be used in a number of ways which help those who require to access information from a PDF in various ways and formats and on differing types of devices.

The presentation was the first part of a multi-part presentation on the topic which will continue in 2007 and focus on the best way to structure documents from a diverse number of source applications so that they will create PDF documents with tagging and accessibility features enabled. Future presentations will also focus on the tools within Adobe Acrobat for editing aspects of PDF accessibility such as tags and reading order.

The Adobe website accessibility section provides useful examples and resources on how to make PDF and Flash documents accessible. As PDF documents can contain Flash content the accessibility issue goes deeper than just making text and graphics accessible.
