Dennis Newman

About me

Dennis has been with PFS Corporation since July of 1999, and has been General Manager of IT Services for the last 5 years. During his time with PFS he has been instrumental in developing the electronic plan review and submission process. His first electronic workflow project was for the HUD code housing division of PFS. That process was eventually adopted by HUD’s agent as their officially accepted method of electronic plan submittal for all of their third party review agencies.

How I Use Acrobat

As the PFS electronic workflow relies heavily on the Adobe Acrobat product, Dennis has created close working relationships with the Adobe and Acrobat communities, including calls with the Acrobat 8 development team. Those relationships led to an invitation to participate on the International Standards Organization’s PDF in engineering working group. Dennis’ work with this group soon led to a nomination as the International Convenor for the PDF/E standard. Working with Adobe, ANSI, AIIM, several major companies and International standards agencies, the PDF/E working group is on a fast track to developing a standard that will facilitate the transfer and storage of engineering documents.
Dennis’ dedication to the PDF/E group and his common sense approach to the application of Acrobat in electronic workflow processes also earned him nomination and election to a three year term as vice chairman of the US technical committee that oversees the document management standards work (TC 171) This background work, along with Dennis’ enthusiasm and honest passion for the work that we do has opened many doors in the state regulatory system. Dennis has worked closely with the state of Massachusetts to set up their electronic review procedures, as well as working with Ohio and Nevada on legislation to eliminate barriers to electronic submittal. Most recently he has received a request from the state of Tennessee to assist in the development and training for their electronic review and workflow process. Dennis (and therefore PFS) has been accepted as an expert on electronic workflow, and has been invited on several occasions to speak on the topic at Adobe and Information management conferences.
