Adobe Reader X interface problem with Dragon Naturally Speaking 11

I recently installed Dragon Naturally Speaking 11, and soon thereafter began getting the following error message: "COM returned an unexpected error code: Details are HOOKERR_NONOTIFYWINDOW." A fix I came across in my research was to disable Adobe's Protected Mode, though this presumably will reduce my Adobe security. Should I just do it, or...is there another, safer, fix? Thanks.

Adobe and dragon both know about this and the one blames the other. Turning off the protected mode makes Dragon functional until you open the first PDF file, the same error message then recurs.

only way around this was to install the full Acrobat Pro X version, it then accepts dragon.

perhaps designed to get us to buy the full version and npot only the reader

Appreciate your reply. Can you recommend another reliable pdf reader that won't likely conflict with Dragon? Many thanks.

Hello. After speaking with a 3rd party vendor, since this issue is known- I simply uninstalled Adobe Reader X in favor of Adobe Reader 9.4.0.

This works fine. It's something with X (10). Good luck!!

Thanks, George. So far disabling Protected Mode has kept working, even after I opened a pdf. Will see if the fix sustains itself over time. Much appreciate the next fix in advance!

Best,
Marguerite

Pardon the ignorance, but how does one go about disabling the protected mode. I have the same problem.

Thanks,
David

It is an Adbobe Reader preference option. Look under "Edit => Preferences"
