Forms: How to Automatically Resize Text??

I am currently using Acrobat Pro 8.0.

When you have a form field in Acrobat - some fields can be set for unlimited text, while others are set for a specific amount.

I was wondering, how do you set the form field to Auto-Shrink the text font size to fit a specific field size?

This is helpful when the field is limited in space, yet the size of the font can adjust to accommodate more text.

Please help.

Hi shavedhead2,

In the properties dialog for the text field, under the Appearance tab you can set the font size to "auto" and the font size will automatically reduce as more text is typed into the field. Under the Options tab you can set the field to "scroll long text" to provide a scroll bar for large amounts of text in a field.

To get to the properties dialog for the field, activate the Select Object Tool on the Advanced Editing toolbar. Right click on the field and choose Properties.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Thank you for the reply.
I think my problem is that I am forced to use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit my form fields.

Do you know if LiveCycle has the "Auto" function? I can't find it anywhere.

Hi shavedhead2,

In LiveCycle Designer, select the text field, right click and select Layout. In the Layout tab you can check the "expand to fit" boxes for width and height. This allows for large amounts of text to be entered in the field and scroll bars are automatically added. This does not shrink the font, but will allow for a large amount of text without resizing the field.

FYI- it is helpful (really, it is necessary) to always provide what program you are working with, what version, operating system, etc when posting a question. There is no way for anyone here to know you are working with Acrobat or LiveCycle Designer, which are in fact two completely separate software programs even if they are thrown into the same box with each purchase of "Acrobat." In case you didn't see it- there is a Forms: LiveCycle Designer forum here as well this one which is for Forms:Acrobat. Confusing, I know.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

I followed the advice I was given here but it wasn't until I turned off "Allow Rich Text Formatting" that it finally worked. Thanks for helping me solve the problem though!

Is there a way in regular Acrobat forms to set the default size for an entry to start with when Auto size is turned on. The type is small to start even if the answer is short.

Is there a way of AUTO selecting the font size in a multi-line text box when it may be the second, third or forth line that dictates the font size. I have text boxes that are long vertically and narrow horizontally into which I have to type several lines of text that might contain a surname. The surname cannot be split between lines or even hyphenated. I am using Acrobat 8

None of the suggestions I received back from the above query worked and I realised I might not have explained the problem clearly. What I need is a method of AUTO sizing the text font in a multi line text box that will not split any of the words as it wraps the text from line to line.
