Can the recently-opened-files box in Reader X be turned off / can recent files be set to 0?

When all files are closed, Reader X shows a large red and white box that lists recently opened files. As for the File menu, the number of recently used files is set in Preferences | Documents. Unfortunately, Preferences only allows a minimum of 1, meaning that there will always be something displayed.

This was less of an issue in Reader 9 and below, because it was only the File menu that was affected. Now, however, it's impossible to have Reader open with an 'empty' screen. Is there any way to turn off that box? Must at least one recent filename always be displayed on my screen when everything's closed?

Thanks, George.

Based on what I read there, this text in a .reg (Windows Registry) file clears Reader's recent file list. (The solution on that page is for Acrobat itself.) Irritating workaround, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

I too find this feature extremely annoying - the box itself is an 'in your face' intrusion on my screen.

I tried the 2 line registry entry fix and it did not work for me - using Vista Business.

Even if it did work, it has to be run each time you close the program, presumanly, to maintain an empty file list. Anyway, it should not be necessary at all, considering all the hype and nonsense associated with passwords and so on just to register for this forum, yet with such a glaringly obvious security breach in the user interface. In my opinion, the box should require to be invoked as a menu option, rather than appear on its own with no option to turn it off. The list of files should be reduceable to zero, and there should also be an option to clear the list on exit. As pointed out on the http://forums.adobe.com/message/3284841 postings, anyone could come along and reset the number of files to be displayed, and so there should be an option to clear the list on exit.

As an extra comment on the account registration procedure, i was sent an initial password, but when i tried to use it I was told that it was not strong enough. I had to add a '?' and then it worked. You have your priorities all wrong guys.

Thanks for the detail on the registration procedure -- obviously that needs to be fixed.

Here is a link to a blog on Clearing the Recent Files lists in Acrobat X Windows by one of our Experts that details both the Acrobat and Reader registry keys used to clear the list.I would recommend posting your suggestion that this should be a preference in the Feature Request Form.
