3D in PowerPoint error - missing or not registered control

I've embedded a 3D image in a PowerPoint slide. When my users view it they get a message that "[s]ome controls on the presentation can't be activated. They may not be registered on this computer."
What do my users need to do in order to view the 3D image in PPT or DOC files?
Thanks
Donna

Will 3D in PowerPoint only work if I generate the PPT to PDF?
I would think that if I place the 3D image in a slide and send that slide to another person, they would be able to view the image in 3D. If they have Acro Read 8 wouldn't they have the controls necessary to view 3D images?
