CATIA DASSAULT compatibility

In the current year we took 30 licenses of Acrobat 9 PRO extended as viewer for CATIA native files. Initially we made some benchmarks on the 9.0 and we found positive results for CATIA4 3D and CATIA5 3D&2D. Unfortunately Acrobat is not working for CATIA4 2D. We decided to workaround the problem planning a massive conversion from V4 to V5.
After the acquisition we migrated as CAD from release 17 to 19. After the necessary updates (we have a 2 year maintenace: we applied the update 200810, the 9.1.1, 9.1.2 and 9.1.3) now we can still open the 3D (CATIA 4 & 5), but the CATDrawings are no more visible.
Has anyone information about this problem? Is this a bug and a fix is planned?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

Catia 2D drawings can be converted usung 3D Reviewer. This information is also included in the help site:

Adobe 3D Reviewer can read native 2D CAD files. The features and behaviors for 2D files varies from the functions for 3D files.

All 2D CAD file drawings open as separate documents, regardless of how you open them. A 2D file can contain several pages, each of which appears on a separate tab in the document pane. The structure of the 2D file appears in the Model Tree.

You can’t save 2D files as session files (PRW), but you can export them as PDF or PostScript® files. Within Adobe 3D Reviewer, you can apply default views, select markups, show and hide certain entities, apply colors, and take raster snapshots.

I hope this helps.

I am an Adobe Business Development Manager specializing in Manufacturing. I am a vetran of many years in manufacturing and PLM, and focus much of my efforts in 3D PDF and how it can be used to solve numerous customer business problems and challenges.

Hi and thanks for the answer,
I tried to use both Acrobat 9 Pro extended ad 3D Reviewer: the 3D models can be opened, but with the CATDrawing I receive an error message "unknown format".
My installation of Acrobat is 9.1.3 and the CATIA models are built with several versions from CATIA5 R17 SP2 to CATIA5 R19 SP3

I am also looking for an answer to this question. I can open 3D part and assembly files without any trouble, but when the drawing file is opened in the 3D Reviewer it is blank except for some text where the title should be. Is anyone having success opening CATDrawings using either Acrobat 9 Pro Extended or the 3D Reviewer? Thanks!

I am having a similar problem with a 2D UG NX drawing. I get the following from the file properties:

Name : %UL=V1.0 PH=0_HHSH4OWNLNPB
File : %UL=V1.0 PH=0_HhsH4ownlnpB
Scale : 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000
Mirror : no
O : 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
X : 1.000000 0.000000 -0.000000
Y : -0.000000 1.000000 0.000000
Z : 0.000000 0.000000 1.000000
Status : unloadable

Anyone with any ideas?

Hi,

just a suggestion : it can be due to the bad backgroundcolor, do you try to modify it ?

A3DReviewer -> edit -> preferences
2D tab -> default backgroundcolor.

Hello,

Maybe the UG file is not opened in 2D mode : This is not the same as CATIA because the extension file are not the same for the 3D and 2D (CATPART, CATDrawing).
Within UG, there is only one extension file for 3D and 2D. (.prt)

This why, within A3DReviewer there is an option to choose the reading mode : 3D or 2D.
This is located at :
Edit / preferences -> read/write CAD -> file formats choose unigraphics then you will see two radio button : 3D / DrawingsHope this will help
