Parts automatically re-naming themselves upon import

I'm relatively new to Acrobat 3D (I'm still on day 23 of my 30-day evaluation) and I noticed that when I import (i.e. convert) a Pro/E assembly into Acrobat 3D it renames some of the parts inside the assembly. For example, if I have 4 occurrences of part number 3537, the scene tree shows the four parts as 3537, 35372, 35373, and 35374. Since I'm investigating the use of this product for use as a parts manual, I would like the parts to not change names. How do I prevent this?

I found out after messing around with this for a long time that the cause is due to the part conversion being done in U3D format. If I convert using PRC then the parts do not (visibly) rename themselves. However, I do then run into the same problem that another user in another Acrobat 3D forum had with the node names becoming "garbled":
