Elements not contained in the structure tree

I'm converting files from PowerPoint 2003 to PDFs using Acrobat 8.1.1. The files seem pretty much the same, but occasionally I run the Accessibility Full Check and get a message like this: 3 element(s) that are not contained in the structure tree. And then it will say "Inaccessible page content."

For instance, on one page there's some text and 3 bullet points under it. Then more text and 2 more bullet points. Then more text. The first 3 bullet points and the last bullet point are described at Inaccessible. But the 4th bullet point has no problem.

When I look at the Tag tree, the tags look just like each other no matter if the bullet point is Inaccessible or has no problem. And when I use the Touchup Reading Order Tool, the order looks okay.

So what does one do when the Tag tree looks okay, but this error message appears?

Thanks.

Sounds like the "bullets" have a character encoding that does not map to Unicode. Thus, they are inaccessible.

Be well...

Actually, it's not just bullets. Sometimes it's the whole document where after converting I'll get a complete structure tree, but the Accessibility Full Check will tell me that the elements are not contained in the structure tree.

When I look at the structure tree, the tags look exactly like the structure tags tree of a document with no problems. When I use the Touchup Reading Order Tool, the order looks fine.

But when I select some of the text and click the "Find Tags from Selection" menu item, I'm told "The selection was not found."

I went back to the PPT and reapplied the slide layouts, but I still got the same error message.

So I can't figure out why sometimes the conversion works fine, but other times not.

Thanks.

I figured it out, finally. Most of the text in the PowerPoint had been given the "Shadow" text formatting. When converted into a PDF, a structure tag tree was created, but was not recognized by the Accessibility Full Check.

By removing the Shadow text formatting in the PPT, I could convert without a problem.
