Fatal Error under edit/preferences/reading

Have Acrobat 8.0 Professional . . .
Whenever I click on "Reading" under edit/preferences, Acrobat suffers an immediate fatal error with no error or other message and closes. This behavior started after I installed Dragon dictation software.

AppName: acrobat.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.456 ModName: lhcom02w.dll
ModVer: 2.13.0.0 Offset: 00018818 is the error signature for the Windows error reporting function. I send plenty of errors but never get any feedback.

I saw Feb 13 response to Jeanne Z question on canceling the "prepare untagged document for reading" option, which is a real pain since I am not interest in having any documents read (this started after installing Dragon also).

I cannot follow Leonard's turn off preference advice because of this error.

What to do? I tried a repair installation but that did not work; am reluctant to do a full remove and reinstall as I am not sure I have the right serial # (purchased via download) and might not be able to reinstall.

Effect of this is that I cannot use Dragon -- if Dragon is not running I do not get the tagging question. Since I open dozens of pdf files a day Adobe is much more important to me than Dragon . . .

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Hi Kevlarkid,

Whenever I encounter a fatal application error, I find it's best to follow a methodical approach to resolving the problem. Different factors can cause system errors, including conflicts among device drivers, software, and hardware, and corrupt elements in specific files. Although a system error may occur only when you work with Acrobat, Acrobat may not necessarily be the cause--it may be the only application that is memory or processor intensive enough to expose the problem.

I suggest using our troubleshooting guide to determine the nature of your issue, which is available at:
