Not sure if this is right place to ask but here goes.

I have a cd with a pdf file (quite old, I believe made with Acrobat 5) and am trying to have the reader read it to me. I have ativated the reader and then tell it to read this page or to the end of the document and all I get is "Warning this page is empty"

Can I make the reader read allcpdf files to me or do they have to be certain pdf files?

If I am supposed to be able to make this work, How do I do it?

My Product Information:
Reader 8.1.7, Windows

the document is probably an image (not any renderable text) -- needs to be OCR'd before it can be read. you need the Acrobat program to perform OCR. whether the document (any portion thereof) can be OCR'd with accuracy depends on the quality of the image. suggestion: find close to home a tech person who is expereinced with acrobat and see what she can do with whatever is on the CD

Which Adobe program does OCR? I do this as a hobby, don't know anyone that is an expert in Adobe reader. If I am to do this I will have to figure out how to do it myself.

any of the "acrobat" programs can do OCR; AA9 or AA8 are the latest. AA9 is pricey. you can get AA8 (a valid license) on eBay for about $100. (Adobe has a form and procedure for the transfer of license.) Acrobat of any generation is a complex and multi-featured program. that's why I suggested you find an experienced (with AA) helper close to home. if all else fails, you may mail me the CD (copy of same) and I'll do the OCR and return a CD (with OCR) to you. no sweat.

If you are using the "full" version; then yes.
First, go to:
Acrobat Updates (for windows)Second, scroll down - down- ...
Until you locate Acrobat 5.

Third, locate the entry:
Paper Capture Plug-In 14.3MB 6/7/2001

Follow the link, review the install information.
Download. Install.
As I recall, Paper Capture for AA5, has a 50 page limit per OCR job.
For a PDF of more than 50 pages you just do the OCR in multiple steps.

OCR with Acrobat 6 and up do not have this page limit.
