In InDesign cs5.5 I've have anchored text frame circle with # and an anchored frame grouped with a text #. I tagged the frames as figure and added Alt text. I want them to read Location 3 and Location 4. In Acrobat X no alt text show. And I can not used the reading order touch up tool to tag them. Suggestions please?
The tagged pdf is up at:

Kathleen,
.
I suspect you've something amiss back in InDesign. While it takes going around the barn a few times before entering, the sample PDF can be given alt text for each of the Figure elements. This is with the Pro version of Acrobat 8, 9 and X.
.
Thing is, both "3" and "4" are for-real text; so, of course ROL will "read" it.
.
In the Content panel, set both Text:4 and Text:3 to Artifact. Select - Right click for context menu - click Create Artifact - in dialog, select Page as the Artifact type.
.
Back in the structure tree remove the Caption tag. From how content was mastered back in InDesign the "3" is processed directly to the PDF element Caption. Not what you wanted.
.
So, first Figure element gets alt text of "Location 3. " and second Figure element gets alt text of "Location 4. "
.
I suspect that you will need to devise an alternate to the way you set up the markers (squares and triangles with the numbers. Try making them into a graphics image file (JPG, PNG, whatever) and use those in the InDesign document.

.Oops - to add alt text - in the structure tree, select a Figure element, right click - select Properties - enter the alt text.
