Hello,

After downloading Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (I need the writer so that I can create PDF files from multiple files or extract pages from existing PDF files) on to my computer, OS Windows 7, which already has Adobe Reader 9.0, I am now unable to open any PDF files from the internet, in both Internet Explorer (8) and Firefox (5.0).

Does anyone know a solution for this? It happened to me the first time I downloaded Acrobat 6.0 and also had another Reader version on my computer at the same time, and it seemed to solve itself after time, maybe when the the Reader updated. However, I tried updating my existing Reader to Adobe Reader X thinking it would solve the problem and it hasn't. Is this just a compatibility issue that is caused by having a different version of Reader and Acrobat at the same time?

Not sure if this matters, but in both versions, when I go to Internet settings in Preferences, the web browser option to 'Display PDF in browser' is grayed out and I'm unable to select that.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any help you can offer or suggestions!

1. It's not recommended to install Reader and Acrobat on the same system
2. Acrobat 6 is not compatible with Win7

You should deinstall Acrobat 6 or do a system restore to the point before you installed it.

Thanks radzmar,
However, I had Reader and Acrobat on my other computer, and though I had these same problems at first, it did eventually start working without any issues, with the Reader as my default program for all PDF files and Acrobat just another program that I used for the specific needs I had for it.
And 2, I have been getting an error message whenever I try to open Acrobat 6 in Win7, but I'm still able to go ahead and open it and use it as I need to, so that doesn't quite explain why I'm getting this error message whenever I try to open PDF files from the internet, as I believe that Reader X is my default program.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Then you were lucky. Unless you are using Acrobat X and Reader X the general rule is not to do it. Yes it will work, but you run the risk of it not working. And then anyone here tries to tell you this is not good idea you want to argue. You can spend your dime with phone support to learn you are trying to use unsupported and outdated software. I'll cut my losses. End of discussion.

Okay, thanks gkaiseril, but no need for that attitude. I wasn't trying to argue, or be rude about it, I just wanted to be thorough as neither of those responses definitively explains the error message I'm getting (although I certainly appreciate the response, thanks radzmar) and I just wanted to provide additional information in case that affected any possible solutions. I will look into the update.
