Acrobat 8 Reader and Commenting

Having recently upgraded users to Acrobat 8 Reader we now find that users cannot comment on documents that they could using an earlier version of the Reader.

Question: Is commenting in Version 8 reader only possible if the document was created by Acrobat 8.

Any one else seen this issue!

Both Reader 7 and 8 support commenting on files that are Reader-enabled. How were these PDFs reader-enabled? What type of document properties do these PDF have?

The files have been created using Acrobat 6 or 7, with no security. When the files are opened using Readers 6 or 7 they can have comments added. However, when opened using the Reader 8, commenting is not possible.

If you go to the document properties of one of these PDFs (File -->Properties--> Security) what does it say under the Document Restrictions Summary?

When opened with Reader 8, the security properies indicate comments not available. However when opened with readers 7 or 6 security properties show that comments is avialble.

In order for users of Adobe Reader 7 or 8 to comment on a PDF, the PDF needs to be Reader-enabled. If users have been able to comment on a PDF with earlier versions of Reader then perhaps you have a third-party plug-in for this purpose. You can check for this under Help --> About Adobe Plug-ins.
