Can't delete sticky notes

Using Acrobat 9 Pro, my boss created a pdf with several sticky notes. I opened the file with Acrobat 8 Pro, deleted all the notes, and saved it with a new name. But when I open the new file, the stickies are still there. Is there some incompatibility beween Acro9 and Acro8 that's causing this?

(I have Acrobat 8.1.3, but the drop down below just goes to 8.1.2)

Do you have any security associated with this document (ctrl + d)?

Security Method = No Security.
But... Documents Restrictions Summary has
Changing the Document: Not allowed (the culprit? how do I change?)
Document Assembly: Not allowed
Creation of Template Pages: Not allowed

Also, the Document Description tag says it was created in LiveCycle Designer 8.0.

Ah, that's the problem. Forms created in LiveCycle Designer cannot be modified in Acrobat, which includes not being able to add/remove sticky notes. Are these sticky notes or text fields from Designer?

I assume so... the pdf was created by my boss, who is out of town.
