Comment & Markup Toolbar missing

At work I sometimes have to use different computers, most of the time the version of Adobe Standard we have is version 8.2.5. This version has Comment and Markup toolbar available to use. I go to View -> Toolbars -> Comment & Markup and it brings it up fine.

This other computer I tried to use today is Adobe Standard 8.3.1. The Comment & Markup toolbar just isn't there. Is there something I need to enable to be able to use the feature on this version?

It may be that the PDF you are working on (at that other computer) has Security, preventing commenting. You can check that PDF under File > Properties and clicking Security. There is no difference in the Commenting tools location in 8.2.5 vs 8.3.1 (unless that machine is launching only Adobe Reader and not the full Acrobat).

I double checked, it's Adobe Standard for sure. I'll have to find that file to see if there's any security settings on it. I assume the setting should just be "no security" in order for this to work.

Also, I tried opening just Acrobat, and it still wouldn't let me bring up the toolbar. So I'm stumped.

You may have an issue with the installation on that machine. Try the Help menu > Repair Acrobat Installation.

Alright Kelly, if I ever have to use that machine I'll make sure to do that. Thanks for the quick responses. :D

Hi, not sure if you can help or not, but we are having a bit of a similar issue. We have Acrobat Pro 9.4.X with IE 6 & Firefox. The comment & markup toolbar appears fine when launched with the application, but there is no tool bar or the option to enable the toolbar when this is launched via the web browser. The mysterious thing here is that 80% of the users are able to launch it, but 20% are not able to. We have checked security settings in IE, registry entries, security on the PDF file itself....& are completely stumped!
Would you happen to know what would be missing that would cause this to not show up?

Thanks

Do you know if all these users have Acrobat Standard or Professional, or are they only using the FREE Adobe Reader? If they are using Adobe Reader, the availability of the Comment & Markup toolbar within the browser is only triggered when you use the "Send for Shared Review" feature. That means, someone with the FULL version of Acrobat has to enable it in the PDF.

It might be the way the PDF is embedded in the HTML, Thom Parker gives some great JavaScripts to force the Comment & Markup toolbar to open in this post:

That is the only other variable I can think of at the moment, but I will keep researching.

Appreciate the help. This is something that would have to go through some regulations & whatnot (in my company) :)
In any case, I will keep searching too. Thanks for the help.
