I have installed Acrobat Pro 8 full version, and all the Commenting and Editing buttons are greyed out, no matter what I do. This is not in Reader, this is the full Adobe Acrobat Pro version.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Do you have a PDF file open? No field means nothing to edit.

If you do have a file open then what kind of PDF is it? LiveCycle Forms and forms with security will both show several buttons as grayed because these docs cannot be edited in Acrobat.

Yes, multiple. Ones from clients, ones I have created from Word docs, and ones that were purely graphics and converted to PDF. None of them are forms, and none of them have any security whatsoever. The whole toolbars for Commenting, Editing and Advance Editing are greyed-out, as are all the entry fields in File Properties, barring me from entering metadata.

I am an advaced user, Thom. Unless there is some new setting in V. 8.0 that I have not enabled, I don't see what the problem is.

Ahh, this would have been good info to have before I answered the first time. You know, we don't read minds;)

Well, the symptoms you describe are exactly what you'd see with a PDF that is Reader Enabled, has security, or is an XFA form. As far as I know there aren't any new settings in Acrobat 8 that would cause this. It's possible that its a bug that has not yet been reported.

Have you always had this problem with 8? Did it just start recently? Is there anything unusual about your system/setup? Was there some other event on your system that occured at the same time Acrobat 8 started having problems? Is this a demo or full version? Has Acrobat been properly activated? What OS are you on? Can you post a sample doc?
