I am not able to enable the typewriter function in Adobe Reader 8. I scan the document to myself from our printer, open the document and am not able to enable the typewriter function. It indicates I can type only if I'm enabled. My goal is to type anywhere on a documents not just designated fields. Any help is appreciated.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.0, Windows

The 'typewriter' tool is a commenting tool, and Reader can not add comments to a PDF unless the creator of that PDF add commenting rights to that PDF.

With Acrobat Standard 8 you are able to be the PDF "creator"; however, to enable Adobe Reader, from an Acrobat 8 product, you must use either Acrobat 8 Professional or Acrobat 3D Version 8.
Acrobat 8 Standard can not do this.
Acrobat 9 Standard can do it for Acrobat 8 PDFs (PDF version 1.7) or later.
The product comparison information may be useful.

To obtain the functionality you want you will have to upgrade from Acrobat 7 Standard.
