Hi dfz,

The Typewriter tool is a "you get what you get" feature- there are no settings you can apply for font, color, etc.

The Text Box Tool is different. When you create a text box with the Text Box Tool ( not a text field with the Text Field Tool- these are commonly confused with each other) you can bring up the Properties Bar (View -> Toolbars ->Properties Bar) and choose any of the options available which inlcude font choice, font size, color, and others.Hope that helps,

The problem is that the default font color in both Text Box Tool and Typewriter Tool are red; a change from previous versions, and not desirable for adding text to documents not set up with form fields. Though you can't format the typewriter font or style, I found if you bring up the properties toolbar as you described, changed the font color to black and set it as the default, it also changes the default color of the Typewriter tool. None of this is documented anywhere visible after much searching of help files and user guides, which is costing a lot of people a lot of time and frustration.

Hi dfz,

The "red" text issue has been reported in the Adobe User to User forums and there is a registry fix mentioned (link to thread below). I have never seen this issue on my machine so haven't tried the solution mentioned. Please take all the usual precautions and make back-ups before you start messing around with the registry settings.

Thanks, Dimitri. This has been helpful. I'm on a Mac, though, so I don't have any registry stuff to mess with.
