Highlighting Text Vista vs. XP

I've run into a rather odd problem that I thought somebody might be able to help with. I've been using the highlight text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended on both a Vista and XP computer (and synchronizing the PDFs inbetween). Oddly, the highlighting in Vista will sometimes glitch: the highlight will be solid instead of translucent (not the opacity setting...as if the highlight were solid and blocking the text).

The problem gets even stranger in that sometimes the Vista Adobe can see the normal highlighting and even do (!) the normal highlighting, BUT there are rather random times when the Vista Adobe will convert all the XP Adobe-made highlights into solid ones.

Thoughts? Thank you.

You mention that this is not the opacity setting -- can you explain further? Have you checked the opacity setting to see if it is different and/or changed?

The first thought might be that it's an opacity problem. I do understand how the opacity setting works. You can go into the properties of the highlighted text and change the opacity of anything (e.g. filled boxes, lines, etc.). However, the highlight-text tool is different because it's job is to insert the color BEHIND the text. Does that make sense? Acrobat Pro 9 in Vista is randomly showing the highlights in front of the text (incorrectly) such that the text is not visible and it's if you painted yellow in front of the text. The correct highlighting method is as if you painted yellow behind the text. I don't understand how to fix this and believe it's a Vista/Adobe error...Thoughts?

I am running Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows XP machine and having basically the same problem as brianschwab; adjusting the opacity does just that, dimming and eventually obscuring the text completely as opacity approaches 100%. I concur with brianswab's understanding of how the highlighting tool should work, as this is how it worked in Acrobat 8 Professional. Opacity adjustment is fine, but there should be a setting for bright yellow (or any highlighting color) behind sharp, black text.

Hello: I am having the same highlighting problem with Acrobat 7.0 Professional i.e. the highlight tool randomly erases or covers SOME of the text highlighted. When I 'Undo' the function the text disappears and I cannot recover it. I realize this is an old problem for many - but not me. Do you have a solution for this problem?

Is there any change in the issue if you uncheck "2D graphics acceleration" under Edit > Preferences Page Display?

Turning off 2D accelleration in "edit - preferences - page display" fixed the problem for me.
Many thanks to Ikassuba for giving this hint!
