I wish to use Acrobat Pro v7 as a markup tool for CAD drawings converted to PDF. It seems to be impossible to add anything other than black text using the various tools available in Acrobat. I need the ability to add green or red text to a PDF to correctly markup for review. I notice that several people on this website have already raised this issue but there has not been a satisfactory answer due to the vagueness of the question so I will be as explicit as possible. Create a .JPG drawing file convert this to PDF. Now add green text on top of the drawing in any way possible. For example using Tools > Drawing Markups > "Call out tool" or "Text box tool". The text box is created and the properties of the text box itself are fully editable you can change the background size shape etc. However the properties for the text inside the textbox is unable to be changed ie the colour is black how do I change is to green or red, how do I change the font or the font size or make it bold or italic etc. If it cannot be done using this tool which is the best tool to use? I thought this would be an easy thing to do but it is not please try it before you answer saying amend the properties as they relate only to the text box itself and not the text inside! Many thanks

Spot on Ted, many thanks for that. As a follow on question: Now that I have green text in my "text box tool" I can right click and select the option "make current properties default". Where does acrobat store that information? In an ini file or the registry for example? I ask because I need to ensure these defaults are used globally so I need to roll out a set of default settings. I hope you can help with this bit as well.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Annots
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Comments
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Measuring
A couple in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Originals
There may be one or two other spots - but this is the vast majority I found.
Keep in mind that these are stored in HKCU not HKLM!!!! Big difference in the rollout code (see some of my previous Ask the Expert postings how how to handle this) - I mention it because you cannot just pull these in to Da' Customizer (Acrobat InstallShield Tuner or Adobe Acrobat Customization Wizard) and expect them to work. This is due to the way Da' Customizer handles registry imports - in that... it doesn't. Yes, the guys in engineering are well aware of this - they hear my name and immediately grab 1) Tylenol (R) 2) earplugs (they've been hearing it since A5) 3) a large hammer to try and hit me with.
How you wish to snapshot (WISE, RegEdit befoe/after dump and grind through BeyondCompare or WinDiff) I'll leave up to you.
One thing - Acrobat only (there are a few exceptions) does write back on registry changes on product close. Not on the actual update*. So, it's
Loop1:
Snapshot
Launch Acrobat and make changes
Close Acrobat.
After snapshot
Delta
Import to test machine.
Did the changes stick?
Repeate Loop1: until done.
* This is good to know - if you made are really bad preferences change in Acrobat - turn the machine off instead of closing Acrobat and your settings will not be overwritten. You may have broken something else, like the entire registry hive. But, at least your Acrobat settings are safe.

Indeed the question has been posed many times. Here's the solution to the problem:
When using either the Callout tool or the Text Box tool (or any other comment tools) be certain to open the Properties Bar (from a context menu opened on the Toolbar Well select Properties Bar).
All font atrtribute choices are made from options in the Properties Bar (those options are NOT available in the Comment Properties dialog box).
Once you make attribute choices for a font and font color you want to use routinely from options in the Properties Bar, open the comment properties dialog box. (Using the Select Object tool double click a Callout or Text Box to open the Properties dialog box). Click the checkbox where you see Make Properties Default. All subsequent comments made with the same tool will use the new properties.
