PDF files view problems in IE 7

When I attempt to open a PDF document from a web page in either IE 7 or Firefox 3 I receive the following message:

The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again.

I have Acrobat 9 and Adobe Reader 9 installed. The default viewer is set to Acrobat 9 for all PDF's. I used to be able to open files so something has changed recently. What settings do I need to change to get this feature back. I have also received the same message in Firefox so it is not IE specific.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.0, Windows

Try doing a Repair Installation for Acrobat from under the Help menu to see if it corrects the problem.
