Problem Highlighting Text

There are white spaces between words in a sentence when I use the highlighting tool. How can I highlight a sentence/paragraph without white spaces between the words. Thanks.

You can either individually highlight each word in the sentence with the highlight tool (doesn't look too nice) or use the Rectangle tool to individually highlight each word (tedious). Is this for proofreading or some other task?

Thanks for your help. The file is the problem, I think (it's a PDF of a clinical study on a surgical procedure). Highlighting works in other files. I'm going to try to get another copy of the study.

Is there anything you recommend I do to the file if that doesn't work?

Can you select the text in the file? If not, it just might be a scanned image. If this is the case, try using the Document > OCR Text Recognition command to turn the image into text that you can highlight.

Tried it. Got this message: "Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because this page contains renderable text."

This message occurs when the text is already OCR'd or renderable -- so this isn't the problem.

I'm going to try to download another copy of the study . . . from a different medical library/database. I'll fill you in when I get it. Thanks, again, for your help.

Downloaded a new copy of the study. Doesn't work either. Must have something to do with how the file was created???

I'm annotating the study, that is highlighting the text and explaining it in plain english. I tried a text box over the area I wanted to highlight. Filled it with yellow and adjusted the opacity; not very readable.

Is there any way I can add a small circle next to the text with a number in it and have it linked to a pop-up text box where I can annotate (explain) the text?

Can you post a page from the study and link to it in this topic? Acrobat.com has a free service to share documents.

I assume you tried selecting them and pressing Delete... Are you able to select them as a separate object at all? (use the hand tool)
