Published Comments are Missing

A colleague of mine says that she published her comments to the shared review server and saw them in the document. However, a few days later, the comments were gone. What would cause this to happen? She has Adobe Professional 8.

Also, some of my reviewers will publish their comments to the shared review server and the comments don't show up in the PDF. I have to go into the XML file created for each reviewer and save it. Only then do the comments show up in the shared PDF. This only happens to the same set of reviewers. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks

It's difficult to determine the cause of this without detailed information on the configuration of your Shared Review (i.e., WebDAV, network folker, platform, etc.). However, within the FAQ for this forum there is a technical document for Setup and Administration of Online Collaboration. Under the Troubleshooting section, there is a section on "Comments only appear intermittently. For example, a user participates in a review session in which the comments appear, and in future sessions observes that those comments are not always present.", which might be related. You might want to take a look to see if it's related to your problem:

Hello,

I've the same problem as Shertinag : some users doesn't see the last comments and both users don't see the same thing on their screen.

In addition I could say that we're using a network folder to store comments and our file server never change their IP adress (cf "troubleshooting").

So I'm disappointed to not be able to help users except by one way : erase the local file "Synchronizer80" stored in "D:\Users\aplemaistre\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0\Synchronizer\metadata".

Immediately after that, every comments are updated. But in fact we're obliged to do this action very (too) often and on every workstation.

Have you any other tips to make the realtime update more efficient ?

Thank you.

Can you outline how users access the PDFs on the network folder? For example do the users open PDF files in the browser rather than using the File > Open command in Acrobat. Do they surf to the file server using a UNC path such as \\fileserver\users\jsmith\document.pdf, or do they mount a volume such as \\fileserver\users to k: and open the file using k:\jsmith\document.pdf.

We tried two different access methods to the main PDF document.

First, it was stored inside the server filesystem and accessed the first time by the browser. After that the user make a shortcut toward the document.

Second, because of "access conflicts" between the users, I sent them a personnal copy of the document wich was stored on their local desktop. Both documents sents their comments toward the unique network folder (with xml).

We never tried to acces local or distant pdf document by "file/open" (it's definitively a not fair operation).

Each time, the network folder is accessed by a "map letter" (like L:\PLEINE_VIE\99_CDF_Partage_PDF). This map letter came with the user's login script.
