Set default font attributes for text boxes

I would like to change the default font for Text Boxes (style, color, bold, italic, size....). I keep reading responses in these User Groups that selecting "Make current properties default" will set the font properties as the default for creating all new text boxes in that file.

It does not work for me. All I can make default are the box properties. (Although I think I have managed to set just the font style and size as a default in the document Preferences or Properties.)

help!!!!!!!! This is driving me crazy having to keep resetting font attributes... thanks!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.0, Windows

This has come up a few times so a technical note was developed to help assist.Let us know if it helps.

Thanks for your response. I am familiar with, and do use, the Properties Toolbar for editing text in text boxes. However, the solution I am looking for is to set the Default Font properties for all text boxes. Every time I create a next box, I have to re-set the font properties via the Properties Toolbar, or copy and paste and existing text box, and enter the new text. Either way is not very efficient.

I use Adobe Acrobat for FDA New Drug Applications submissions for one specific file in the package, as is everyone else in the industry. This file can at times include hundreds of text boxes. Having to re-set text properties, or the copy & paste procedure, again, is not a very efficient process. Can you imagine having to reset text properties in MS Word every time you start a new sentence and/or paragraph? That is what Acrobat's process is similar to.Thanks,
Cheryl

You should be able to set the font attributes for the text box as well as the text box attributes. Try clicking inside the text box so you get the I-beam cursor and then pressing Ctrl+e (Windows) for the text properties menus. Adjust the properties as necessary (font, bold, etc.) then right-click on the actual text box and select "Make Current Properties Default". This setting is sticky so all new text boxes should be setup with these new defaults.

If the setting isn't sticky it may be a problem with your Preferences. Do you have multiple versions of Acrobat and/or Reader installed on your system?

I have already tried everything you suggested, but tried once again...but still the same problem. The only settings it will retain is Fill Color, Font Style, Font Size, Font Color. It will not retain any Bold, Italic, or Underscore settings.

I only have one version of Acrobat Standard on my computer, v8 (no Reader only versions...).

Have you tried updating to 8.1.4? Have you tried renaming your Preferences so they're re-created automatically? This is detailed in the following technical note in step number 4.

No, I haven't updated to 8.1.4 (using 8.1.0). But I also had this same issue when I had Acrobat Pro...could not set all the text property defaults for new text boxes, so not sure if upgrading is the solution.

Not sure what you mean about renaming your Preferences so they're re-created automatically' in your response. The link to the tech note did not work (said webpage was not available).

Try the link now -- it should work.

The link does work now. I followed the instructions under #4 to re-create the preferences folder. Still no luck....all text attributes as not saved as a default.

After I moved the original preferences folder to another location, and re-launched Acrobat, I'm assuming a new Preferences Folder would have been created in the same location as the original? If so, that didn't happen. I made some changes in a file after re-launching Acrobat, and closed the application. Checked Windows Explorer, but there was no Preferences Folder re-created in the Acrobat\8.0 folder...

It may be that you have certain file types hidden from view in Windows Explorer. What Windows OS are you running? Did you have Acrobat Pro. on this same machine?

I'm running XP, and I have my preferences set to view hidden files. Acrobat Pro has never been on this computer...had it on another computer which I had hauled away because of all the problems/conflicts it was causing.
