Suddenly cannot edit by selecting and typing (Pro Extended 9.3.2)

I got by email a pdf from my colleague. I saved the pdf to my HD, and opened it in Acrobat Pro Extended 9.3.2. Then I could replace text by just selecting a word or a sentence, and start typing; this automatically brought up the Replace Text edit box. Also I could, select text and hit delete to get the text crossed out.

I saved the document and emailed it back to my colleague, and then I got a corrected version back. This worked fine, except for...

Now the Replace Text edit box no longer pops up automatically. Nor can I cross out text by selecting it and hitting the Delete key. I have to right-click and use the menu, which is a PITA, to be frank.

What's up? What has changed? The document I got is in both cases generated by Office 2010. There is no security settings. It turns out that even for teh old pdf, I no longer get Replace Text box opened automatically.
Anyone have any idea?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.3, Windows

Still no go... Acrobat 9.3.2 on W7x64.

Is there some switch in the Prefs I have to enable to get Acrobat to automatically open the Replace Text edit box on typing, or crossing out selected text when hitting the Delete key? I've tried them all under Edit > Preferences > Commenting, but to no avail...

I'm not exactly sure what you were doing before but you can use keyboard shortcuts instead of the right-menu. Just select the Text Edit Comment tool (or use the single keyboard accelerator "E") then select your text. Next, type "R" for replace or "D" for delete. This will bring up the relevant comment tool for each command.
