Text box editing

We add text boxes to our PDF files to make notes (dates, change comments, etc.). There are tools for editing the text (size, font, color) in these added boxes, but they are almost always greyed out. The only tools I can usually access when I highlight the text and right click are the box properties (fill, line), which I keep zeroed out as a default. On the other hand, it occasionally works. I am flumoxxed! How can I keep these tools accessible??

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.0, Windows

The Properties toolbar displays different options depending on what content is selected. For example, if you select a Textbox then you'll see options for changing the box properties such as fill color, etc. If you're cursor is within the Textbox then you'll have other options for changing the text properties within the Textbox.
The Text edit tools don't have options for changing the font, size, etc. only the TextBox tools does when you're typing text in the box -- the only properties you can change are the fill color and opacity for the Text edit tools.

I wonder why I have been able to change text color and size before, and have seen those tools available to me in the past, and can no longer see them? I have tried to get them to appear when I first create the text box, and highlight what I have written, but this does not work. I wonder why this feature is so hard for Adobe to incorporate? What shouldn't we be able to make such changes-- who wants all their comments to be red, 12 pt courier?!

Where are you changing the text color/size? In the TextBox comment? You should be able to do this as long as your cursor in within the TextBox. You can't however change existing text in your PDF with the Text Edit tools -- just the color and opacity of the highlight or markup.
If you want to edit your existing text in a PDF you need to use the TouchUp tool.

yes, within an added text box, not to the PDFed text itself. Can't get it to work.

Simply go to View>>Toolbars and check Properties Bar. A Text Box Propoerties bar will open. Then, you have to double click the text in the Comments Text Box to make the Text Box Properities bar change to a Text Box Text Properties bar.

I know. That process is so non-user friendly, we might as well go back to MS-DOS operating system.
