When entering text boxes, the text always shows up as red. I can't get the text box pop-up to appear, so I can get to the Appearance tab to change it. Help!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Hi Banderson,

If you are using the Text Box Tool to add the text boxes you need to bring up the Properties Bar toolbar to make changes to the text such as color, size etc. If you already have text written into the box you need to select it when making the changes.

Hope that helps,

Dimitri

When I get the properties pop-up box to appear, the Appearance tab only has the options to change the line style (border), the border color, the opacity, the line thickness and the fill color. There isn't anything that lets me change the font or the font color. Help!

Has anyone told her how to change the base text color in 8.0 from red to black?

To change the color of the text, one needs to create the colored text in an different program and then cut an paste the colored text to the comment text box. You can then set the default value.

So the text default color is red for Acrobat Pro 8.0 users?? So, so stupid, is there a fix for this that you may be aware of? PC format, Window's based. Is there a way to change the default color?

You can set it to any RGB color you want, you just have select the Note Tool and select the note's whose style you want to make the default and use the context menu to set that notes properties as the default value for all future annotations.

The sticky note uses black font.

correct answer, sort of.

If you right-click select the text tool in the commenting/toolbars menu, it will give you a properties option, at the very bottom of the pop up list. You can set the border color to black, what you don't realize at that time, it also sets the text color within the border to the same color! Yea!!!!!

This may help -
(using :: Windows - Acrobat Professional 8 or 3D)

Open the Properties Bar.
View > Toolbars > Properties Bar
Open the Text Box tool.
Tools > Comment & Markup > Text Box Tool
Lay down a text box.
The Properties Bar now shows "Text Box Properties".
On the Propeties Bar, the left most icon's drop down menu lets you choose a text color.
Select the desired text color.
Also observe that you can select font, font size and font style.

Move the mouse cursor outside of the text box and click.
Next, select (click on) the text box boundary.
Observe that the contents of the "Text Box Properties" in the Properties Bar changes.
The icon that is second from the left has a drop down menu that lets you choose the boundary/border color.
Select the desired color.
Now click on the "More..." button at the right (in the "Text Box Properties" display on the Properties Bar).
A dialog window opens (Text Box Properties).
Observe, at the bottom of the window, the "Make Properties Default". Select/Check this.
Click OK.

Any use of the Text Box tool on a PDF during the current session of use of Acrobat, on any PDF, will retain your color selections.
Close any open PDF file(s). Close Acrobat.
Open Acrobat; open a PDF; use the Text Box tool. Your new "default" will still be in use.

I am working on Adobe 9 Standard an upgrade from Adobe 6 unfortunately. When using the text box and attempting to change the text properties the properties tools often do not work. In order to get it to work, I have to exit the file and re-open. Is there anyway to correct this?

On the Propeties Bar, the left most icon's drop down menu lets you choose a text color.

Thank you very much for this tip!!

I just signed up because this problem is driving me crazy. Talked my employer into buying me Acrobat 9 Pro in the hopes everything will work much better. Simply put, I am not happy. Maybe this User Community thing will help. - - I make a text box and type in it. I have done control-E or used the menu to select Properties Bar. Text attributes are up there just fine. I can change the text all I want. Clicking outside the text box to basically de-select it and then going back in by double clicking the text only gives me Box Properties - No Text Properties. I have tried just about every trick and work-around my thirty years of computer science has taught me and no luck. I have not tried the above possibility of closing the file and re-opening it, mainly because I cannot believe that is the solution. I have also not tried right-clicking on the Text Box Icon in the toolbar. This is very similar to several other problems I have encountered with Acrobat 9 and they are all extremely frustrating. I hope to solve this one first.

The ony work around I know of is to enter the text in something like Word, format it, copy it and paste it into the text box. This seems to work but it's hooky.

This is a story of my adventures with the problem I posted yesterday - not being able to access the text properties after accepting a text box and wanting to go back and edit the text attributes in the box. Today the problem predictably reoccurred but I tried closing and reopening windows with some success. also tried exiting Acrobat and the starting it up fresh with some good results. The funniest part was that the text properties were coming up fairly regular but a new problem appeared!! I wanted to select "No Border" for the box which is an option in the properties under the Line selections usually. But get this: The box was selected with a click, the sides of the box highlight and the 'Grab Handles' appear, I select No Border, then deselect the box... what now appears is a text box with two sides STILL APPEARING and the other two sides gone! Saveral attempts to make all four sides disappear resulted in various combinations of the sides appearing and disappearing. I tried closing the window not saving the changes and reopening and attempting to do another text box - this time with a different number of sides affected. Kept doing this a few times and began to lose my sense of humor. Tried coloring the sides white and went with that to get through the day. Toward the end of the day after commenting through about fifty pdf's, it seemed like everything was working better. Maybe this program has to be BROKEN IN!!!! AAARRGGHHHH!!

After the last post, I decided I had to hand out a tip I discovered. I use the commenting tools A LOT to annotate technical literature. Mainly because that is the easiest way to add text (Although the newest Typewriter Tool capabilities are showing SOME promise). One thing that is frustrating is the inability to center a block of text VERTICALLY in the Text Box. The text you enter rises to almost touch the top border of the box. /// My tip is not perfect but it helps: Create a blank line at the top and enter a few spaces with the space bar (spaces are actually blank text so to speak and will hold the line in place with an ascii character). Now there is a space at the top and the bottom border of the box can now be adjusted to give the appearance that the text is centered nicely in the box. Horizontal centering IS provided in the Text Properties area (IF you can get it to appear when you want it to). Enough Acrobat for today...

Whenever I've had this happen in my documents, I've had to exit Acrobat and restart. It's not an effective solution but at least I can access all the elements of my Properties toolbar the second time around.

The text box TEXT properties bar only works for the most recent file that has been opened. Any file or document that is no longer the most recently opened loses the ability to modify the text. This was true in Acrobat 9.0 when I first discovered it and gave up on v9 for v7 and it continues to be true in v9.3.2 that I just reinstalled and retried today. Adobe obviously does not care about addressing this particular bug.

It is unfortunate that you are experiencing issues.
However, the issue you describe is not something that occurs with my installs of Acrobat.

For example.
Working with dot release 9.3.2 –
Multiple PDF files open. Used Text Box Tool on each. Properties tool bar open.
Selecting box boundary results in property bar reflecting configuration choices.
Selecting text in the box results in property bar reflecting configuration choices for the text.
This is true when moving from any open PDF to another PDF.
Add text box, save, close - done for multiple PDFs.
Reopen the PDFs. Open property bar. For any of the open PDFs - select box boundary or text yields results stated above.

It would be the 'strokeColor'. I assume you know how to find the particular comment you want to modify.
