text box tool with 8.1: how resize automatically?

On Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.0, we could use the text box tool to color the text & box & most importantly, when you clicked outside of the box it would size itself to the text that had been typed. Both features are important to our accountants. Version 8.1 creates a standard size box which requires an extra step to manually resize the box to the text. However, we have this loaded on our Citrix servers & occassionally we find the box will resize itself automatically. We would be interested in knowing how to do this with this tool or another on a consistent basis. Thanks for your help! Sara

Hi Sara,

The text box tool will create a box that is one line tall if you just click (instead of clicking and dragging). It wont collapse to fit text if click and drag to determine the box size initially and it's too large. Your best bet is to drag-create the box to the width you need but is only one-line tall. When you add text beyond a single line, the box will grow to fit.

To control the line and fill for a box, you can either right-click on a box and choose properties from the menu or, select View: Toolbars: Properties Bar. Select the Text Box Tool and the properties bar offers you formatting options for the text box. Set it after you select the text box tool, but before you create a box. To make the settings the default for the the tool, create a box that is colored the way you want it, right click on it, and choose Make Current Properties Default.
