I'm alittle confused after reading all the posts.

1) Is the typewriter tool available in Acrobat 9 Standard? or only Acrobat 9 Pro/Proextended?
2) Also, if the PDF was not made in Acrobat, then I can not use the Typewriter? is that true?

Yes, the Typewriter tool is in Acrobat 9 Std and you should be able to use it on any PDF.
