I am using Acrobat Pro 9 Ext

I converted a PNG file to a PDF
I enabled the typewriter tool
The typewriter toolbar is 'greyed out' so that I cannot change the font or font size. It is the font size I'd like to change.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.1.3, Windows

Try closing Acrobat and then opening it again. For some reason this should allow you to now change your Typewriter tool properties.

I'm having trouble with the typewriter toolbar being grayed out too! I've tried resetting the toolbar, opening and closing Adobe, and checked the Security tab to make sure Comments are allowed. So far nothing has worked. I've tried a few work arounds, but they only work part of the time. Will this be fixed in the near future? I'm currently using Adobe Acrobat 9.3 Pro.

How were the PDF's created?

LiveCycle Designer forms are hard to add comments to.

If a PDF has had 'Extended Reader Rights' applied to it, commenting might not be allowed.

Are the PDF's being viewed within a web browser?

I'm having the same trouble as DJ Elliot and Karen Scherer.

I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro, version 9.4.1. I created my PDF by dragging and dropping some scanned document images (Bi-level TIFF) onto an empty Acrobat session, then saving that as PDF. My Typewriter tool is enabled, and I can type onto my document in the default font, but the other tools on the typewriter toolbar (to change font size, leading, and color) are all greyed out. My document has no security enabled, and I am not using LiveCycle. I've tried quitting and re-starting Acrobat but nothing seems to activate the Typewriter tool options. Please help!!!

This is an old known issue. See this thread: http://acrobatusers.com/forum/collaboration-commenting/problem-modifying-comments-mark

I wasted many, many hours consulting with a number of Adobe reps, who said they'd research it, escalate it, get back to me, etc. etc. -- and *nothing* ever came of it. Forget it -- they'll never fix these defects!

Suggest you obtain the new version X Pro; at least these features function properly.

I called Adobe support. After checking security and the document (which were all ok). We found that in the scanner Configer Presets the "Make PDF/A compliant" was checked. We unchecked the box, clicked on save. Then scanned the document. The typewriter function then became active. You may have to check this to ensure the box stays unchecked as it could be in the software start-up to have it checked.
