acrobat 6.0 and reader 9.1 clash

Hello all, I'm obviously new to these forums but had a confusing question (at least for me it's confusing.)

here at work we use Adobe Acrobat 6.0 for editing PDF's. well, recently a few of our workers needed Reader 9.0 to view newer PDFs. for some reason, when one of our workers tries to view an Internet PDF, it tries to open Acrobat 6.0 instead of reader 9.1. she gets an error message telling her she needs to upgrade the reader to 8.0 or above.

how can we disable acrobat in order for the file to load in reader 9.1 without un-installing acrobat?

is it even possible?

thanks a bunch!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 6.0, Windows

I've got the identical problem. I uninstalled and re-installed reader and that actually worked until I opened up acrobat 6.0 again and it obviously re-set things back to their non-functional state. The obvious fix is to buy the latest version of acrobat, but that isn't always a viable option. Someone on this forum must have a simple solution that doesn't involve editing the registry.

p.s. My temporary solution was to uninstall 6.0 until I need it again.

Open your Windows registry editor and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe

set value as "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" (or if you had choosen another install location for Reader 9). Now, when you open PDF in IE, then the PDF will open in Reader 9.

You should also do a "Help > Check for Updates" within Reader 9 application as that will let you update Adobe Reader software to the latest version i.e. 9.3.3.Hope that helps?

Your solution was correct. It fixed the clash between acrobat and reader. Thanks!

p.s. I'm glad I found this forum. The web is full of 'know-it-alls' that really don't know much, but can't help themselves from responding to any and all questions. Your solution was easy and 100% effective.
