Acrobat 6.0 STD and Reader 8.0 Issues

I currently have Reader 8.0 setup to open pdf's in IE7 web browser. I also have the "Open pdf's in web browser" turned off in Acrobat std 6.0.
However, whenever I click a pdf on the web, they still open up with Acrobat STD 6.0.

This gives me a lot of issues. Some of our carrier sites' PDF's don't function properly with Acrobat 6.0 but function correctly with Reader 8.0.

Is there a way to fix this so that ALL PDF's opened in IE7 open with Reader 8.0.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 6.0, Windows

Numerous conflicts can occur (specifically within the browser) when running multiple versions of Acrobat on the same machine. What application do you have setup to open all PDFs by default (Reader 8 or Acrobat Std 6)?

Do you have the all updates to Acrobat 6 Std? Also, you should be aware that A6 was released much earlier than Internet Explorer 7 and therefore might not be compatible.

I am aware that Acrobat 6.0 came out well before IE7. Right now I have checked every setting I can find, and as far as I can see I have Reader 8.0 set as the default viewer for PDF's. IE7 still wants to open all pdf's with acrobat 6.0.

PDFs opened through IE, any other browser, are handled through the MIME type, not file extension.

The fastest, and easiest, way to fix this is to uninstall Reader 8 and reinstall it. With the requisite reboot in the middle.

However, I totally understand the need to do things the hard way. :)

Dig into the registry for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf

Trace the CLSID.

It may take a bit of work to trace everything back to determine which app is being launched, but this should give you the start you are looking for.

Holler if you have any additional questions.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

I have taken a look at the registry key, but the only thing in it is an Extension entry with the data being .pdf

I do not see any CLSID for it.

I may try and just do an uninstall and reinstall later today. I will let you know how that goes.
