Acrobat 8 Pro will not launch after installation

I inserted the disc and dragged the program over to the applications folder on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.3. Everything seemed fine until I try to double click the application icon. It shows up on the dock and bounces for a second or two before disappearing. I've tried to repair disk permissions but it will not launch at all.

Any ideas? Thanks!

This problem may be associated with the Acrobat Updater plug-in. In some cases, a new plug-in resolves this problem. Here is a link to additional information:
