Acrobat 8.0 update issues.

recently my hard drive on my Ti laptop gave up it's ghost forcing me to reinstall all my software. I have been using CS2 and for the most part everything loaded OK. The installer required me to use a separate disk to upgrade to Acrobat 8 Pro after the initial install was complete. Once completed the Adobe updater showed an update for Acrobat 8.1.2 which I downloaded and tried to install only to have the installer program tell me "the install failed due to the program being modified or plugins moved since it was installed". This was a fresh install so nothing on my part was modified. I also tried upgrading to 8.1 thinking that skipping an upgrade might have something to do with it. Same thing happened. I can't seem to find any answer to this. What is the problem?

Thanks!

DB
