Acrobat 8.1 Pro for Mac: Problems Viewing PDF Files on Browser

I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed on my iMac. I also have the latest version of the Safari browser on my iMac. I recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0 and also downloaded the 8.1 patch. While installing the Acrobat upgrade, I selected Acrobat Pro 8 as my default application for viewing PDF files. Since upgrading, I can no longer view PDF files from several web sites in my Safari browser. I get a window telling me to download the latest version of Adobe Reader. I already have the latest version of Adobe Reader for Mac installed on my iMac. I tried selecting Adobe Reader as the default viewer for PDF files with the same results--the same window appears telling me to download Adobe Reader. I have searched Apple's support web site and Adobe's support web site for solutions and have not found any relevant information or solutions. Any suggestions.

Be sure that Reader and Acrobat shares the same settings in Preferences > Internet.

Both Reader and Acrobat preferences are set to allow Acrobat to open all PDF files in the browser and in normal opening of files.

And what happens if you set Preferences to open PDFs with Reader ?

When setting preferences in Acrobat and Reader to open PDFs with Reader, the same thing happens: A window appears telling me I must have the latest version of Reader and to click on the "Reader" icon to download a free copy of Reader.

try to do it (download and re-install Reader), I guess that is an issue due to a missing "receipt" file in the "Receipt" folder...
