Acrobat Distiller 9 crashes

Hello:

I had Frame Maker 7.2 on my windows XP machine, which had its own Distiller 7. Later I installed Acrobat Pro 9, which made me to uninstall Frame Maker's Distiller 7 and installed Acrobat Pro’s Distiller 9. Both Frame Maker and Acrobat Pro were working fine.

Suddenly the Acrobat Distiller 9 started giving problem. I couldn't print a PDF from Frame Maker. I tried opening the Acrobat distiller from the Start menu. It opens and just closes, but doesn't stay for long.

I uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9 and installed Frame Maker's Distiller 7, and then it worked fine. But the problem started again when I again installed the Acrobat Pro 9.

What should I do to overcome this problem? Is there any way where I can keep Frame Maker's Distiller being overwritten by Acrobat Pro's Distiller?

Please guide me in this.

Thanks,
K

Have you tried repairing your Acrobat installation? Help > Repair Acrobat Installation.Do you have all the updates installed?

Was there anything in the log file when you installed it?

Yes, I tried repairing the installation through s/w CD, but same issue.

Regarding updates, I don't know whether all updates are installed or not. Could you please tell me how and from where to install the updates?

I couldn't locate the log file. Please guide me.

Thanks,
K

Hello:

I installed the update from the following link. The update is for Acro Pro 9.1, but it said that this can be used for Acro Pro 9. Hope this is the correct update.
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4375

After I installed the update, I tried running Acrobat Distiller 9, but it gives me an error:

Unable to fine "Adobe PDF" resource files.
"F:\Adobe\Acrobat\AMT"
Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?

Even after saying "yes" it didn't solve the problem. I uninstalled Adobe Reader 9, but didn't help.

BTW, I have installed Acrobat Pro 9 on F:, as I didn't have enough space in C:. Is this causing a problem?

I tried searching the log file, but I didn't find it.

Thanks,
K

Can you find anything in the Distiller log file (not the installation log file)?
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\Distiller 9

What should I do now?

Ok, the PDFX4:2008.joboptions is the problem. Acrobat 9 doesn't ship (and doesn't create) PDFX4 files. I imagine it came from FrameMaker. Make sure that the default setting for Distiller and Adobe PDF printer is set to Standard (or perhaps one that you've created) instead.

I did that, but didn't help, so I just tried deleting the PDFX4.joboptions. But still it gives same issue.

What joboptions setting are you using for the Adobe PDF printer?

Try this suggestion from another AUC Expert.

check your decimal separator
1. Open Control Panel/"Regional and Language Settings" dialog
2. Click the "Customize" button on "Regional Options" tab
3. Choose period as "Decimal Symbol". Press OK, Apply
4. Launch Distiller
