Acrobat Reader 9 Freeze computer - Activation problem?

Hi!

I am installing Acrobat Reader 9 Standard on a Dell with windows XP Pro. No problem with the installation.

When I start the program (Reader or Distiller), the program work for 3-10 secs and freeze the computer. I cannot use task manager to kill the process. I need to reset the computer.

I have tried to install the patch, with the same result at the end. I have de-installer and re-installer under the admin account with the same result.

I have now installed the software on my laptop and I can see that when I start the program, an activation windows pop-up. Could it be the activation program the problem?

Thanks!

Francis

Have you tried running the Repair Acrobat Installation command from under the Help menu immediately when you launch the program?

I have tried the repair, but the computer freeze and cannot complete the repair. I have done some debugging and is what I found.

When I disconnect the network cable, Acrobat run fine. I have downloaded and installed Process Explorer. When I start Acrobat, I can see that Acrobat is starting fnplicensingservice.exe. It's the program that is freezing the computer. I have searched the web for this program, tried to remove it, but without success (Acrobat need this program to validate the software).

So, I have added to my host file the following : 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com (I dont remember exactly the server name) and my problem is now gone.
