What is the current status of this problem, see details below.

We have a server farm of several hundred Terminal servers experiencing this problem since updating to Adobe Reader v8.
Thank you in advance for you assistance.

WORKFLOW:
Adobe-File-send through email.
Adobe and the email gets locked up with the following error message:

Microsoft Office Outlook, The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your connectios and try again.

DETAILS:
Acrobat Technical Support info from the acrobatusers.com forums:

“This is a known bug.

Instead of removing the entire Acrobat program, you also just remove the Outlook PDFmaker if it's not being used.

You can do this by going add/remove programs and select Acrobat and choose to Modify the installation. In the wizard select to remove Outlook PDFMaker.

Or when re-installing Acrobat, choose to do a custom install and do not install the Outlook PDFMaker. “

I'm unable to comment whether or not a fix will be released for this issue. The most likely scenario is that it will be addressed in the next version of Acrobat.

Some workarounds do exist. It seems that this problem only happens to e-mails stored on an (Exchange)-server.
So you could either turn on 'cache-exchange mode', or move the e-mails with the msg attachments to a local folder (pst)first.

The other alternative as mentioned, is to disable the Outlook PDFMaker. besides the methods mentioned above, you can do this by unregistering pdfmoutlook.dll“

My Product Information:
Reader 8.1, Windows

If you are using Reader, the Outlook PDFMaker resolutions are not applicable. Outlook PDFMaker is installed only with the paid Acrobat product.

Are you able to send email from other applications such as Office or browser?

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Yes, all other email and attachment features work properly.
It is specific to this Adobe Reader workflow upon upgrading to Adobe Reader version 8x.

According to the Adobe Support info listed above this error is a defect with an unknown fix date.

I'm trying to pin down a fix date or a confirmation of what version will have the fix.

Any further insight from Adobe Support?

Thank you again.

I just fixed this by going to the control panel, Add/Remove programs, clicking on Adobe Professional (probably should work the same for the Reader) and then selecting "Repair." Note that I do NOT have the Outlook PDFmaker installed.

I believe it is very important to close Office/Outlook before doing this (make sure it's really closed, not just hidden, by checking that there is no Outlook.exe process in the Task Manager).

It looks like this is a problem with the MAPI registration (might have occurred for me when I was trying out Office 2007...). So you'll have to rerun that to make Acrobat connect to the "right" mailer. Good luck!

Your mileage may vary...
