Adobe Updater not connecting through Proxy

Hi all;

Need some help with this as we are about to roillout reader 8.0 on all our desktops.

Situation:
We have ISA server 2000 at all sites which are configured correctly to allow browsing to the network.

When I try to update the program manually HELP | Check for updates I get the Adobe Updater dialog popup as expected for username and password to access the Proxy server. However, where the should be a name for the server we are showing a blank.

The Updater tries to get out to the web, but comes back after about 120 seconds with "No Internet connection was found. Please check your Internet settings or firewall."

I have checked that the proxy settings are the same in Reader as in my browser. No problems there. We do not run personal firewalls on the local machines. However firewalls at the local nodes might need to be configured.

Could someone give me an idea on what to do on this score. Do we need to open a specific port? In which case why does Reader 7.0 work without issue? Has something changed in 8.0.

Many thanks

There was a similar question in the Ask an Expert area:

Essentially it says that the updater does not provide any mechanism to support a proxy server so you'll need to manually download and install the patches.
