Broken Web Toolbar

Hi all, I have Acro 7 Pro. And for a long time now I have printed pages from the web tool bar inside IE.

The program has been flawless, until recently, now the tool bar while still visible, and seemingly functioning, does nothing, nothing occurs on pressing the button or on any item in the drop down menu.

I tried re-installing the 7.0.9 update, I tried a repair and nothing has worked, I want to know if anyone thinks an uninstal and re-install will fix it?

If I do an un/reinstall, what about my progrem settings, how do I keep them?

Regards,
Sean.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.9, Windows

Do you have two version of Acrobat/Reader on your system? Sometimes this creates conflicts in the browser. Have you recently changed operating systems?

Check to make sure the Acrobat Add-ons are installed in Internet Explorer under the Tools --> Manage Add-Ons...To open PDF files in a browser window, the ActiveX folder must contain the following files: AcroPDF.dll, AcroIEHelper.dll, and pdfshell.dll. The ActiveX controls should be located in: Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX

Thanks for your help Ikassuba.

I have reader 8 but I have always had Reader 8, I don't recall it updating when this occured, it may be related though if it did and update, but as far as I recall it has always been fine.

That is what is so frustrating, the toolbar has been so good to me, what can reset it, or get it to work again?

It is listed and seems to be working, I tried disabling then re-enabling and no luck, the problem is it never goes through to the 'save as' filename dialogue, it never asks to save, I cannot amend, I cannot get the sidebar to appear when I click that, nor can I access the preferences.

That is not actually the problem, PDF files are still opening in the browser, and Acrobat 7 Pro is working fine, same with Acro Reader 8.

The problem is simply that while my Create PDF toolbar (in IE) looks to be functioning but it is doing nothing, and nothing has solved it so far.

Will a complete uninstall and reinstall solve it? what about all of my application settings? I want to retain them if I have to reinstall.

Ohh please, can someone help me, this is so frustrating.

I uninstalled, then reinstalled, (AND LOST MY SETTINGS JUST AS I ASKED IF I MIGHT!!) AND NO FIX!!!

Why can this be? my system is rock solid, what has happened in this latest 7.0.9 version?

I could not even see it working after uninstall and reinstall when it was back to version 7.0.0

Yes I am assuming, (and I think accurately) that this began with 7.0.9, (what was the release date of that patch?), and even though it was uninstalled IE is STILL unable to get a rise out of the Acro toolbar.

AGAIN, let me repeat, the Acro SIDEBAR is NOT working, NOR are the preferences!!

HELP!!

Are you running Acrobat 7 under Windows Vista with Office 2007/Internet Explorer 7?

Thanks for your help Ikassuba

Running Aco 7 Pro on XP SP2.

I am at the point of putting an old Ghost on, but I really would like to fix it because I hate to think this might happen again!

No Office 2007, (I have had and still have Office 97) and I have IE 6.

The key problem is that the ActiveX control seems to not be operating, in the Manage Add-Ons the only two items in the 'currently loaded list', are the Browser Helper Object and the Toolbar, but in the Add-ons that have been used list there is a 3rd, and it is an ActiveX Control type, this element is NOT in the currently loaded section.

This is why the toolbar works, the ability to right click and see listed the convert to PDF is int eh menu, and yet the Adobe PDF Explorer Bar is NOT listed in the View Explorer Bar Menu.

I think this is an interoperability issue related to having Acrobat 7 Pro. and Reader 8 on your system. The area where difficulties arise are always related to the browser and/or PDFMaker macro. Do you need Reader 8? For a more detailed explanation of interoperability issue check out the following technical note:

Actually, looking back at my system (never needed Reader much, except that it was the browser reader/display plug-in) so I never suspected that I had the older version, I had version 7 of the reader.

Anyway I removed EVERYTHING, (but still left activation active) and I removed the reader, and I did a clean, of the registry and the temp files, EVERYTHING, AND AFTER REINSTALL, (without reader) IT DID NOT FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry, (for me mostly) I am going to have to restore an earlier ghost.

This is the most frustrating and irritating problem I think I have EVER had WITH ANY SOFTWARE, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF SUCH A LACK OF CORRECTION TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE.

LIKE I SAID, the problem is simply that the Adobe PDF Explorere Bar is NOT WORKING, that means the Active X control is NOT working in the browser, NOBODY (I have been looking EVERYWHERE - and this is the CLOSEST I have come to an answer - BUT IT DOD NOT WORK FOR ME!!! - http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=548585) seems to know how to fix this.

So frustrating, thanks for your help Ikassuba, but a ghost is the only thing I can see that will correct this. (here is hoping the earlier ghost I have does not suffer the issue!!)

My best wishes to those who suffer this without a ghost of their system, this is a death sentence for me, I PDF SOOOOO MUCH stuff for my research, (which has completely stopped, - I have a backlog of News I need converted).

FYI - another member corrected the problem by disabling automatic updates. Here is the URL for more information:
