Cannot Install Acrobat Professional 7 with Creative Suite 2

I had issues with my computer not long ago, and Acrobat became corrupted. I uninstalled it. I try to open files, and it tells me that Acrobat is not installed. When I go through the Creative Suite 2 install, everything is installed except for Acrobat 7.0 Professional. I go through the installation process and it says that everything is successful. However, I still cannot open files with it and still says it is not installed. I have no idea what to do now to trouble shoot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What OS are you running? Do you have any other versions of CS on your system (i.e., trial, etc.)?

Windows XP Pro SP3, I have the other programs that come with CS2 on my system - but I have removed it all and tried many times to re-install and alsways get the same result - all programs install but Acrobat.

I had a trial of Acrobat 9? I think running for a while but that is gone too.

I've been told that I have to clean any and all instances of ANY Acrobat or Adobe program before the install will work - but other than long complicated pages of "instructions" on how to delete or clean everything off my system - no one has offered any other solutions.

Why doesn't Adobe make a (simple) clean-up program for CS2 available to assist users in this process?

I have even seen one suggestion that says the only way I'll ever get this to work again is to REFORMAT my hard drive!!!! There has to be a better way.

This is not the 64 bit version of XP, correct?

What point version of CS 2.x is this?

What error does the log file product?

To examine the log file:

1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel, and then double-click Folder Options.2. On the View tab, under Hidden Files and Folders, select Show Hidden Files and Folders.

3. On the View tab, deselect Hide File Extensions For Known File Types, and click Apply.

4. Choose Start > My Computer. (Windows XP)5. Double-click the startup drive (usually C:).

6. Locate and open test.log in Notepad.

7. In Notepad, choose Edit > Find.8. Type Error, and then click Find Next.

Does Notepad finds a line that reads "Error [x]" (where [x]is a four digit number such as 1303, 1311, or 1606)?

I also have this issue after my installation became corrupt. I have uninstalled and now I am trying to reinstall.

At the installation options (where you select the components you want to install) The Acrobat 7.0 Professional is marked with an *.

The note at the bottom reads "Components marked with an (*) are already installed outside the suite, they will not be reinstalled and will remain in their current locations. No user data or preferences will be lost."

I read the post from lkassuba above but I do not have a log file to check. Please help.

I'm having the exact same problem. Can someone please help?

I had CS2 - including Acrobat Pro 7.0 - working just fine on this computer. I added CS5, and they were working together just fine. Out of the blue the computer started acting really strangely, trying to install or activate something Acrobat-related that it could never find whenever I opened a Windows program (this is on XP home, not 64-bit). I decided to just uninstall CS2 and reinstall. It installs the entire CS no problem, and there are no error messages, but Acrobat never installs even though I tell it to. I have tried multiple times, from uninstalling elements to uninstalling the entire thing - I've also uninstalled CS5 and Acrobat Reader, in case they were causing some kind of problem - and it's just not there. Again, no error messages, a final message saying that everything installed, but no Acrobat. This is starting to get me really aggravated, and I would love it if somebody had a solution.

Levi,

The normal discussions about money being tight not withstanding, you may want to seriously consider upgrading your copy of Acrobat. In a perfect world you would upgrade everything (and should). However if you can only upgrade one, it would be Acrobat. Why? Acrobat 7 & 8 have been End-Of-Life'd. No more security updates for either. Also, you are more apt to receive corrupt or insecure PDFs than Photoshop or Illustrator files. All that being said... Acrobat is a completely separate installer on CS from the other applications. You notice that it has it's own serial number?

I would uninstall Acrobat via Add/Remove programs, do a scrub on your system to remove all the vestiges of it and then reinstall. How do you scrub? Search out here under my ID - I have a couple of posts that detail how to scrub Acrobat off of a system. These go into file areas, registry and similar such places to completely remove it.

I hope this helps.

Holler if any other ?'s.

Thanks

Doug

dthanna is right. I had to scrub my system clean of all Adobe software in order to be able to reinstall CS-2 and Acrobat Pro. Why are Adobe so invasive in the way they embed their software so deeply and covertly into your operating system? If you research you can find alternantives to Adobe products that are much less invasive. I'm not going to recommend their competitors products here just seek and you will find a product that is just as good and does not invade your operating system.

With regards to Acrobat, the tool has to integrate itself into several key areas to provide the functionality that it does.

Fonts
Printer/Spooler subsystem
Office (plug-in)
Internet Explorer (helper app / plug-in)
Window's Explorer (right-click)
among others.

@rwagele - You are right in that there are other apps. And I regularly survey them from the tier-2 manufacturers. Unfortunately none of them create PDFs as good of quality as Acrobat, have FIPS 140-2 validation nor have the overall functionality of the product. I'm dealing with the output a product right now that generates PDFs out of APF input - and spits out PDFs that have horribly CID encoded TrueType and Type-3 fonts. The PDFs are so bad that even Acrobat/Reader 9 & 10 have a hard time dealing with them. Unfortunately it's one of our client's systems so all we can do just consult and advise... and try to deal with them as they come in.In short, you get what you pay for.

Thanks.

Doug

Thanks all. Turns out I might be getting a new computer soon anyway, so I might just reinstall from scratch on that one and hope it works. No, I did not notice that Acrobat had its own serial number on the disc. I don't think it does. Again, there was nothing in the install process (which included checking the box to install Adobe Acrobat 7) to indicate that Acrobat would not be installed. No additional serial numbers were requested.

I might consider upgrading to the current version if 1) 7.0 hadn't been working just dandy for the minimal purposes for which I need it until this recent meltdown and 2) I hadn't already shelled out a decent amount for the full CS5 Design Suite, which of course Acrobat conveniently no longer comes with. I think we're into Adobe for about as much as we'd like to be right now, thank you very much.
