Problem: Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8 will not start. I get an error every time. I've tried everything that I've found on the internet to try and fix this.

This is what the Error says: Error signature: AppName: formdesigner. exe ModName: mfc80u.dll ModVer: 8.0.50727.922 Offset: 0004c620

Event Viewer Error Properties: Source: Application Error Category: None Type: Error Event ID: 1000 User: N/A Computer: (my computer name)
Description: Faulting application formdesigner.exe, version 8.0.2073.1, faulting module mfc80u.dll, version 8.0.40727.922, fault address 0x0004c620.

Can someone please tell me at least what happened? It was working fine one day then didn't use it for about 2 weeks and now it won't work!!

Thank you.

LiveCycle Designer, Windows

When this error has come up in other posts (Acrobat not LiveCycle) it had to do with a corrupt user profile. Have you tried re-creating your user profile to see if it corrects the problem? Here is some other discussion on the issue:

Thank you for the quick response.

Yes, I've tried creating a new user profile, replaced the dll, uninstalled and reinstalled.

My Acrobat 8 seems to be working fine.

Everything that has been on this forum and a search of the internet for this problem has not resolved the issue.

I've not been able to find anything else about the error on the forums or internet that has resolved this issue.

Some folks have tried deleting the Application data folder and have found that this corrects the issue. See the following post for additional details Solution for Crash of Designer when try to open a form!

Do you have SQL Server 2008 installed? If so, this might be the issue. Microsoft’s mfc80u.dll (version 8.0.50727.1833) installed by SQL Server 2008 causes Designer 8.2.1 to crash on launch. Here is a link to the "Fix for SQL-Server 2008/Designer conflict" with additional information.
