Does Reader disable older versions of Acrobat?

* Hi All *

For years I have been happily using Acrobat 4 full version, that did everything I needed to do. Recently I installed Acrobat Reader 8. Now I find every time I try to open Acrobat I get the Reader - even when I click on the original Acrobat.exe - and consequently I have lost the writing and editing functions that the full program provides.

Is this Adobe's way of forcing you to upgrade your program? How do I get back the functionality that I was perfectly happy with? Do I have to remove the lot and re-install Acrobat 4? Any advice would be welcome.

Mixing versions and using Reader and Acrobat has been discouraged by Adobe.

If you are going to have Acrobat and Reader of any version, you always have to make sure there is not part of one of the applications running as a background process. This may mean you have to open the application you want to use and make sure the right one starts before opening a PDF.
