adobe reader will load but not install. states it cannot remove prior data

Can you provide more background on what version of Reader you are updating and what operating system you're running on?

Yes I have windows xp and have attempted to load reader 7.0 and or 8.0.both tell me we cannot finish the download as the patch cannot be removed do not recognize where it was originated.
