I was operating with acrobat 8. a probelm occured in my system, and I used Win Xp System Restore. After restoring the system, I noticed that Acrobat 8 disappeared and I had acrobat 7, and unable to process PDF Files. So I went Adobe site to download Acobat once again. It downloaded, but when trying to install I get error 1714 The older version of Adobe reader 8 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. Had no success on the Adobe web site getting help. I try deleting the older version and it will not delete. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7.0.8, Windows

You can not run both Acrobat 7 & 8 on the same computer. It sounds like you'll have to remove any reference to Acrobat from your system registry. Contact a qualified local technician to help you correct the system registry and re-install Acrobat.

If you do not have access to a local tech - or like to live dangerously, you can try the solution available in the Adobe Knowledgebase:
