As I was installing my new Acrobat 8 Professional, I was asked to put my Windows Vista disk to get the AcrobatPDF.dll. I am actually using XPx64 so I did not have the Windows Vista disk. I tried the XPx64 disk and it did not have the file. I canceled that process and Acrobat 8 Prof continued being installed. However, I now have problem with some jobs and asked to repair the Acrobat 8 Professional. It kept asking for the AcrobatPDF.dll file which I don't seem to have. What should I do?

Hi PW,

There are some known issues with running Acrobat 8 Professional (and version 7) on Windows XP x64, which are documented here: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/333360.php. Keep in mind that Acrobat was written for 32-bit operating systems.

One of them is that the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer won't work with the IE PDF viewer ActiveX Control. The technical support document suggests using the 32-bit version of IE instead. The good news is that Adobe Technical Support will support you, so you should try contacting them.

I don't know why the installer was asking for your Vista disc, so report that to technical support if you contact them.

Good luck!
