Installing Adobe Reader breaks .exe file association

I installed Acrobat reader 9.3 and I could no longer execute any program. When I click on shortcuts or the programs themselves an Adobe reader window opens and an error message comes up stating that it can not open the file "xxxx.exe". This has really crippled the computer. After uninstalling AR the problem goes away. I have Norton Security Suite running and up-to-date so one would hope I am pretty safe. Knowing nothing is perfect I have scanned for viruses and other noxious things but have turned up nothing. The registry appears to be OK also (but who can really tell for sure).

AR 9.3 is being installed from the Download manager.

Has anyone here seen this before? It would really stink to not be able to install AR!!

Acrobat Reader 9.3 is designed for opening XXX.pdf file. You could not open XX.exe file actually. You need to choose right APP to open it.

I will try my best to help you in PDF converison fields, objectively and Neutral.
