Lori, Our company is having an issue with one of our Images that we pushed out on 400 plus laptops with the pdw writer giving an error as if it is trying to print to a physical pdf writer printer. It spools and prints the pdf but still gives a exclemation mark on the printer down by the clock. We are using version 5 for the pdf writer and 8 for the reader. Any help is would be greatly appreciated.

The exclamation you mention indicates that there was an 'error' or some sort. Not necessarily fatal - like font embedding, etc.

To be honest, my recomendation would be to not use PDFWriter. It has not been supported by Adobe since A5. If you need a budget contenious PDF creation (but not manipulation) tool I would suggest purchasing 400 seats of Adobe Acrobat Elements 7.0 - which as of this time - is still for sale.

Acrobat Elements is nothing more than just the Acrobat Distiller component of the full Acrobat product, with a few GUI modifications. You still get office itegration and the Adobe PDF printer and can fully customize these, along with JobOptions, just like the full Acrobat product.

The reason (lay persons understanding) of why Elements was not moved forward to A8 as there is no programatic difference between the two products.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks.

I have heard of other people saying that they had this problem and that there was a patch availiable for it but only on request. Do you know where we might be able to locate this patch? We would have to go in and re code a lot of our main software if we got rid of the PDF writer right now. This is not an option at this time.

Thanks.

You would need to contact your Adobe CSR rep directly to see if they can't find the patch for you. I am not aware of one, but that does not mean there isn't one.
