How can I get Acrobat Reader 8.0 to replace 7.0 on my PC? I use WinXPHome. I downloaded 8.0 okay but when I try to replace 7.0 I get error 714 - "The older version of Adobe Reader 7.0.9 cannot be removed. Contact your local support group." Can you help?

My Product Information:
Reader 8, Windows

Just want to be sure we're on the same page here. Did you first try a complete deinstall of Adobe Reader 7? You must UNINSTALL an older version before attempting to upgrade to a newer version of Reader. This holds true for the version (x.0) upgrades. If you install a patch such as 8.1, 8.1.1, etc. then you don't need to uninstall 8.0 to upgrade.

Ted: I tried several times to first uninstall reader 7.0 but always come up with error message 1714. I will try your suggestion of installing the 8.1 patch and will advise the outcome. Thanks!

No matter how I try my pc advises that 7.0.8 cannot be removed and this includes all of the 7.0 patches. I tried several times to de install but to no avail. I am running reader 7.0.8 and could not even upgrade to 7.0.9 as I got the same error message. I am using Windows XP Home and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4. Acrobat Reader came with my Dell and I was always able to get update patches until I switched from IE to Firefox. Thanks for trying but I feel like I hit a dead end.
